Global Chair's visit to Tokyo, Japan


14th March; National Hansen's Disease Museum, Tokyo, Japan: Steering Committee Member, Mr. Yasuji Hirasawa tells us about his first hand experience of acute discrimination and segregation because of being affected by leprosy.

On March 14 DPI Chairperson, Javed Abidi, visited the national sanatorium Tama Zenshoen for people affected by leprosy. The facility is located on the outskirts of Tokyo.

Javed Abidi with Mr. Toshihiro Higashi who was a Board Member of DPI Japan from 2001 to 2009, when he was asked to Head the Office of Disability Policy Reform under the Cabinet Office, Government of Japan, headed by the Prime Minister himself.

Javed Abidi at a meeting with key officials and members of Japan Disability Forum (JDF). Formed 8 years ago, JDF has a total of 13 national organisations, such as Japan Federation of the Blind, Japan Federation of the Deaf, Inclusion Japan, etc.
